You Don’t Have to Believe Me - Just Experience It
You don’t have to believe in Reiki for it to be worth trying.
I know that sounds like a strange thing for a Reiki practitioner to say. But I mean it, because I used to be one of those skeptical ones.
Years ago, when I was still working as a RN, finishing up grad school, my hospital brought someone in to do Reiki for staff. Administrative staff that is. I had never really heard of it. My manager sang its praises and talking about how amazing her mini session was.
My initial reaction wasn’t curiosity. It was irritation. Here they were bringing someone in to support staff, but bedside nurses on the floor, who needed it a lot more, were too busy to even get five minutes of it. That whole experience left a sour taste not because of the Reiki, but because of the connection in my brain to irritation and annoyance. I didn’t really think about it again for a few years.
After my trip to Sedona and what I would describe as a spiritual awakening, I got curious about Reiki. I became interested in learning it myself. Not because it was immediately something I believed it - but something I was curious about.
I booked a session. It was relaxing, but I didn’t feel much. I could have easily stopped there and decided it wasn’t for me. Instead, I booked a session with a different practitioner. That session felt different. I went deeper.
That’s when I understood something. One session doesn’t tell you everything. Every practitioner is different, every session is different, and your experience can shift the more open you get.
If you’ve never had Reiki done, here’s what you can expect, no mystery required:
-You stay fully clothed the entire time and will lie down on a massage table with all kinds of “fluff” (It is seriously ridiculously comfortable!).
-Before starting, I’ll ask you to set an intention, something you want to focus on or invite in during the session. Nothing complicated, and nothing you have to share, you can just keep it with you. Then, I ask you to just be present for the session and have grace with yourself when your thoughts wander (they will!).
-I use a hands-on technique, meaning I gently place my hands on your body, unless you tell me beforehand you prefer no touch in which case I can do a “hands hovering” technique. Either way is completely fine.
-During the session, you may experience sensations - warm / cool flushes, tingling, numbness, itching. Any and all (or no) sensations are normal.
-I offer 30 and 60 minute sessions
-At the end of the session, you’re given time to get back into the real world and take your time getting up, and if you feel like sharing anything about your session, I invite that at this time.
That’s it! No chanting, no incense you’re required to breathe in, no believe system you need to be involved with beforehand. You don’t have to believe in energy work before you try it. You just need to be curious enough to lie down and see what you notice!
